DANBURY HANDMADE CLAY PLAIN TILE

The Danbury Plain Tile is the ideal choice for a project where tradition and period aesthetics are key. Individually hand-formed, kiln fired in small batches, and checked by hand and eye, the Danbury is the perfect choice for any sensitive renovation project or any development that needs to blend into its surroundings immediately.

An excellent choice to enhance the individual character and charm of a building. Fired in a coal-fired Hoffmann kiln which bestows the tiles with their unique character and colour. Once fired, tiles are unloaded, sorted and palleted by hand. All the while checking each and every tile with the human eye to assess the subtleties of the finished products. Thus making sure any tile or fitting that does not meet the standard, is removed and recycled.

Available in three colours that can be used as a single overall colour or mixed together to create an even more eye-catching blend. We also offer feature and ornamental tiles which include; club, bullnose, diamond or fishtail designs. Along with standard fittings like bonnets, valleys, hogs back ridge tiles, mono ridge and even bat access tiles.

Danbury roof tiles are tested and deemed to exceed the current British standards BS EN 538 Flexural strength, BS EN 539-1 Impermeability & BS EN 539-2 Frost resistance.

Case Study - Roxwell Church

Stoneleaf Danbury

Danbury Handmade tiles showcased on Roxwell Church

St Michael and All Angels Church sits prominently in the centre of Roxwell, a small village just outside Chelmsford, Essex. The church can trace its origins back to the 14th Century with many modifications and enlargements occurring over its long history. Added to the listed buildings register in 1967 due to the quality of medieval architecture and fabric of the building, along with monuments and furnishings.

The restoration project has been championed by local residents. A lot of hard work and effort has been put in to secure funding for the project. The existing roof was fitted in the early 1900s and finding a close match to the existing peg tiles was an important part of retaining the character of this vital community asset.

Bakers of Danbury were chosen as principal builders and we were pleased to be able to supply them with the Stoneleaf Danbury Handmade Plain Tiles in Red Blend. The natural clay tiles have a unique character and were chosen as the closest match to the original tiles (although not many of those were left after lots of patchwork repairs over the years.)
